According to traditional Chinese medicine, Qi is energy or life force. It circulates through the body enhancing health and vitality. Everything in the universe is comprised of 5 elements; within the body this is represented by the five vital organs. The 5 Element Qigong generates more Qi for each organ and improves the health of the whole person.

Dr Lam's team has incorporated medical knowledge with qigong to create a unique and simple exercise that is powerfully effective for health. As tai chi is a form of qigong, this DVD will benefit tai chi practitioners and teachers. Practicing qigong complements all Tai Chi for Health programs.

What is Qigong?
"Qigong" comes from two Chinese words. Qi is the life energy inside a person that circulates throughout the body to provide inner strength and maintain good health. Gong is a method of exercise in this context. So Qigong is an exercise which cultivates better and stronger Qi. The stronger Qi you have, the healthier and stronger you are.

Qigong is especially beneficial for health and mental relaxation. The 5 Elements Qigong taught in this DVD is easy-to-earn and powerfully effective for health.

Qigong (Chi Kung) is a mysterious part of Chinese culture, many believe it has magical powers to transform one"s mental and physical health. In this DVD, Dr. Paul Lam will show you how to gain the many health benefits by practising this ancient Chinese art.

As well as detailed teaching of the 5 Element Qigong, the DVD includes warm up and washing Qi (wind down) exercises.

The Five Element Qigong

According to ancient Chinese philosophy, all things in the universe are made up of five elements: wood, fire, earth, metal, and water. These elements have different properties: earth nurtures all living beings, metal is sharp and changeable, water runs down and irrigate the earth while wood is characterised by growth and fire is hot.

The five elements represent five major internal organs of the body. They interrelate and influence each other. While one enhances another, they also negate each other. The positive relationships are: metal gives life to earth, earth gives life to water, water gives life to wood, wood to fire and so on.

The negative relationships also work in a continual circle; earth negates water, water negates fire, fire negates metal, metal negates wood and wood negates earth and so on. The 5 Element Qigong is based on this theory of nature, and is effective in promoting all aspects of health, including relaxation, mental concentration and cultivating Qi.

How to do Qigong well
The ultimate goal is to use your conscious mind to direct the Qi, use Qi to direct your physical body, thus combining the mind, Qi and body as one co-ordinated entity. This may sound challenging, but the actual learning and practice is relatively easy. With regular practice you will progress steadily to the ultimate goal. You will gain health benefits almost right from the start of your practice. The most enjoyable part is the practice, and the many health benefits you gain as you progress.

    My wife, Janet and I have been using Tai Chi DVDs for Arthritis and Qigong for Health since March 2020. We do our exercises every morning before breakfast and as we are both now in our 80's,find it is a Happy and Healthy way to start our days.

    I purchased this DVD as part of my preparation for "Tai Chi for Health" accreditation. This is a beautiful qigong, expertly taught by Dr Lam. Like many qigong exercises, it appears simple, and easy to commit to memory. However, the more you practice, the more you realise how wonderful this version of the 5 Elements Qigong is, in terms of its depth and meditative qualities. Highly recommended.

    I am so pleased with this updated version of the 5 Element Qigong. It's specific, concise and clear, with so much information and gentle encouragement for your own practise.
    It's easy to learn but gives your body so much benefit through the breathing exercise.
    I'd recommend it to anyone.

    Purchased the DVD 4 weeks ago, and did the 6 lessons within the first three, thanks to clear and concise language and demonstrations. Would be great to have more depth and additional exercises. Thank you.

    Qigong dvd.
    Because of a kundalini process, I cannot get rid of the often intense energy flows. This often causes problems with breathing and heart rhythm. Physically I have to be careful with what I do. That is why I started 5 years ago with the DVDs from Paul Lam. I do it daily and I really enjoy it, especially physically.
    I am very happy with the updated version of the Qigong DVD. The greater attention to breathing and grounding works much better for me. My breathing and energy dissipation improves as a result. Especially lesson 1 about the earthing is very useful to me. I didn't use the previous version of Qigong DVD. It stimulated my energy flows too much.

    Especially pleased that Dr Lam has produced this QiGong for Health DVD. I found it easy to learn and remember. It can be practiced anywhere throughout the day. The benefits stay with me and I feel the elements in nature and inside my body which feels wonderful and exciting to go deeper. My knees ached at first as I practiced new sinking and opening and putting weight on outside edge of feet.Now adjusted. It feels very powerful. I will take my time and build up strength. I have found a flat spot for special practice on a hill over the moor nearby. Imagine my delight when in the company of a golden Eagle standing also. So close I could see feathers rustling in the breeze. I feel connection to all in the moment especially other Tai Chi family practicing the same movements which is beneficial living here isolation and quiet.

    I recently purchased this DVD. I felt calm and relaxed just watching it. Dr. Lam's method of teaching is gentle and effective. I would recommend this DVD to everyone who is interested in Tai Chi and improving their health.
